Dr. Elena Silva-Leal is in her twentieth year as an educator. Her background includes roles as a classroom teacher, department chair, teacher development specialist, and school administrator in private and public schools in urban areas. In her latest role, Dr. Silva-Leal served as a high school administrator in the largest school district in Texas. Her professional development and support of teachers resulted in change and improvement of the learning environment and the emergent bilingual student organizational program. She specializes in support of turn-around campuses and has reached hundreds of teachers from across the state of Texas on inquiry-based instruction, scaffolds, digital integration, literacy routines, and data-driven instruction. She believes students should experience authentic learning opportunities to think critically about their world.
